چکیده
Steroid-based receptors with enclosed binding sites, formed from quaternary ammonium and macrocyclic bis-urea units, can substantially override the Hofmeister series in anion phase transfer experiments.

متن کاملOverview of the effect of salts on biphasic ionic liquid/water solvent extraction systems: anion exchange, mutual solubility, and thermomorphic properties.
Hydrophobic (water-immiscible) ionic liquids (ILs) are frequently used as organic phase in solvent extraction studies. These biphasic IL/water extraction systems often also contain metal salts or mineral acids, which can significantly affect the IL trough (un)wanted anion exchange and changes in the solubility of IL in the aqueous phase. In the case of thermomorphic systems, variations in the c...
متن کاملSulfate anion stabilization of native ribonuclease A both by anion binding and by the Hofmeister effect.
Data are reported for T(m), the temperature midpoint of the thermal unfolding curve, of ribonuclease A, versus pH (range 2-9) and salt concentration (range 0-1 M) for two salts, Na(2)SO(4) and NaCl. The results show stabilization by sulfate via anion-specific binding in the concentration range 0-0.1 M and via the Hofmeister effect in the concentration range 0.1-1.0 M. The increase in T(m) cause...
متن کاملAnions in Electrothermal Supercharging of Proteins with Electrospray Ionization Follow a Reverse Hofmeister Series
The effects of different anions on the extent of electrothermal supercharging of proteins from aqueous ammonium and sodium salt solutions were investigated. Sulfate and hydrogen phosphate are the most effective anions at producing high charge state protein ions from buffered aqueous solution, whereas iodide and perchlorate are ineffective with electrothermal supercharging. The propensity for th...
متن کاملThe inverse and direct Hofmeister series for lysozyme.
Anion effects on the cloud-point temperature for the liquid-liquid phase transition of lysozyme were investigated by temperature gradient microfluidics under a dark field microscope. It was found that protein aggregation in salt solutions followed 2 distinct Hofmeister series depending on salt concentration. Namely, under low salt conditions the association of anions with the positively charged...
